Pinterest is just plain COOL!  I never expected that the idea of a collage would be the main theme in the fastest growing social media network of today, Pinterest. Users simply create their own online image collages called pinboards and share them with other users when they are done. 

Sharing is fast, easy and fun! It is even catching on now like wildfire.  It is beautiful; that is why many users love it. Due to the fact that it is imaged based, it is also turning into a powerful marketing tool for just any product or services you may want to advertise and promote. 

I am sure this will fascinate you. By just using your pinboards, you can market your business on Pinterest in so many wonderful but effective ways. Even beginners will find it easy to do. Users who are a little bit advanced in using Pinterest will also have more pinning techniques to acquire.   Far advanced users of Pinterest, well this is just plain SICK!!

For the novice at Pinterest, I suggest you do the following in attempt to incorporate Pinterest into your content marketing strategies. 

As greenhorn pinners, you can use the following marketing strategies:

• Maximize exposure of your business name on your profile. Declare your business name as your username. In the event you had open Pinterest with a different profile name, replace it with your business name. 

• Write a short bio under your photo to include your interests in the ‘About’ section of your Pinterest profile. Make sure and use keywords that describe your business.  This will let the users find out more about you thereby exposure you and your product/business.

• Gain followers by connecting your Pinterest account with your Facebook and Twitter accounts. As an effect, you will add social media icons under your profile picture that link directly to your FB & Twitter profiles.

• Add your website URL in your profile.

• Pin content steadily .

• Pin content progressively; pin lots of stuff gradually to maximize your exposure and engagement. 

• Be creative with your board names. They must be short and interesting. You are actually share whenever you pin something. Make sure they are very attractive and inviting.   

• Use ‘@username’ in your description to tag other Pinterest users in your pins. In so doing, you are building your following and stand out; you are actually networking with other vendors and professionals in your niche. 

• Engage with other users by commenting on other peoples’ pins. However, write sensible comments and observe etiquette.  Don’t ever be a jerk, if you don’t like a pin – leave it alone.  MOVE ON!

• Hit the ‘Like’ buttons on other users’ pins to recognize wonderful contents.

• To ensure variety on Pinterest, pin from many different sources. Don’t limit yourself to just a couple of sites. 

• Pin and repin inimitable finds. You are actually repeating someone else’s pin to your followers. You are also facilitating an increase of their following aside from getting a credit on your pin. Note that the person whose image you repin receives a notification through email.

• Pin your own blog posts without over-promoting. Observe usual etiquette rules of other social media site. Refrain from being ill-mannered; avoid self-centeredness.  

• Pin videos like from YouTube to distinguish you from others.  Very Very Very cool idea….particularly with a video that you have already had some decent viral exposure.

• Always add smart descriptions under the images you pin as they stay with the images as they get repinned all over Pinterest.  You can use you business name in the description if an image is from your own site.

• Use the handy Pinterest browser bookmarket to pin a new image. Use the built-in social media prompts of this tool to re-share your pin on Twitter and Facebook. 

• Make use of Pinterest’s embed option to publish pins as content in your blog posts and website pages. It is important to make the users aware that they have to click on the Pinterest image to get to the original source.  

• Repin from your camera, while moving and add a location to your pins using the Pinterest iPhone app to enable others to find your images.

• Use appealing images in every post you make. Choosing powerful and emotive images increases the chance of getting pinned.  Make sure they work well for your blog readers.  This will partly optimize your website content for Pinterest sharing. 

• Add a clear watermark with your business name; add text to your image or a clear description to the image. This completes optimizing your website content for sharing. Just make sure it doesn’t forget the main subject of the photo.

• Create seasonal or holiday boards that relate to your brand. Example: New Year’s Resolutions, Fourth of July, etc. Users will certainly love your boards.

• Don’t forget to add a highly visible ‘Follow Me on Pinterest’ button to your website to promote that you are a pinner. 

Those pinners who are a little bit advanced than the neophytes can resort to the following Pinterest marketing ways:

• Using the Pinterest’s search function, search for new images to pin. You will find the search bar in the top left of every Pinterest page.

• To facilitate search, use keywords in the descriptions of pins. Pinners will also find your images and boards when they do their own searches.

• Add a ‘Pin It’ button to the footer of each of your blog posts to assist the readers quickly and easily share your contents on Pinterest.

• Click on the RSS symbol under your profile photo to find your Pinterest feed which you should advertise to your readers. 

• Feature your recent pins in a widget in your WordPress Blog sidebar by using a Pinterest widget.

• Add contributors to your boards. Example: Let your employees contribute to your company boards. Remember, contributors enrich your boards.

• Look at your site’s page by going to http://pinterest.com/source/yoursitehere often to discover which posts and images are resonating with Pinterest users. Use that information to shape your content strategy.

• In creating your own Pinterest shop, add prices to your pins. Type the $ or £ symbol followed by the price of the item in the pin’s description. There is a possibility that pins with prices are featured in Pinterest’s ‘Gifts’ section.  This is a kick butt tool if you have different products that you want to sell!

• Create a board containing the story of your company and defines your core values. This board must be available to all users as part of your sales strategy.

• Create a ‘Thank You’ board to reciprocate special appreciative messages of your clients. This board could also announce a launch of a client’s big venture with your company. 

• Include Pin tutorials on your board to assists a client on how to use your product of service. ‘How-To’ videos can serve as promotional materials.

• Integrate trends into your content strategy. Click on the ‘Popular’ link on your Pinterest home page to research what’s catching on with pinners.

• Introduce your company’s team members in a specially created board. Each photo could be described by a short bio of the person.

• Include photos of your company. Many online users will get attracted on some behind the scenes photos revealing how you actually do things.

• Attract followers by serving as an information curator for the specific niche you serve. Your board must contain the latest and the best resources. Eventually, you become a trusted source of information on Pinterest and will have great number of followers. 

• Save time by integrating your Pinterest account with Facebook’s timeline feature. This will facilitate posting just once in both locations.

• Add photos to old text-only posts on your blog.  Share it on pinterest. Attractive pictures will surely get you more pins.

Far advanced Pinterest users can do all of the above. However, on top of the aforementioned, they can do a lot more to maximize traffic and audience engagement.

• Do a careful study on when you are getting the most repins, likes, comments and referral traffic by doing a careful analysis of your Pinterest profile and site traffic status. Do this at least three times a day on random days within a week.

• Introduce your client-Pinterest users to each other. Give them recognition by sending out weekly commendation that go with spotlighted boards and pins from their profiles by email.  

.

• Flaunt some of your ideal clients in separate boards. These will be very helpful during your sells cycle. These boards can also be embedded into your website pages for other people to view the profile of your prospective and current clients.

• Pinsboards can be created for instructional purposes, such as webinars. These are also useful during any class presentation and could supplement classroom learning in a number of other ways. 

• Create boards for referral sources, affiliates and strategic partners, and let them add to the boards. Engage with the partners so they know they are included and appreciated.

• Invite your customers or student to join certain board to pin their ideas and suggestions for the improvement of your product.

• Create a testimonial board for dedicated and loyal customers.

• Use Pinterest board to share some success stories. A powerful visual story will surely be a way to keep users coming back to your board.

• Check out your VIP clients’ boards to get ideas for special thank you or holiday gifts.

• Create quick-start guides or owner’s manual boards for your products. Providing ideas like these will maximize your service relationship with your current and prospective clients.

• Share updates you gain from conferences on separate boards. Invite your batch mates to contribute to that board.  

• Add your beautifully created coupons to your boards.   Then spread the love by sharing them!  

• Create special boards where you could invite your clients to share their ideas tailored to their specific needs and situations.

• Create pins that give special and exclusive promotions for those following you on Pinterest.    Do one for your top pinner!!

• You can create a board where you could run a Pinterest contest; one that encourages readers to pin links and images from your site that inspire, motivate or entertain them. Judge and award winners based on creativity. 

Can I just say Social Media Rocks in 2012.  Use Pinterest as part of your marketing strategy!

Your pinboards will reach great distances you cannot even figure out how big and how wide.

Pinterest is a virtual online pin board where you can organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web and love. You practically attach or fix things of your choice on the board. It can be used to plan weddings, share favourite recipes and decorate homes. It is very exciting to note that you can view the pinboards created by others. You can get access to new things, get insights and be inspired by people who share the same interests. 

It is the mission of the team of developers to connect people through the many things they find interesting. These things could be any e-book, recipe, gadget or product which builds links between and among people. 

Based on these shared interests, millions of new pins are added every single week thereby establishing connections among people all over the world. If you want to get started, you have to simply request an invite. 

Just what can be done with Pinterest?

Pinterest can help practically anyone save and share their interests and find people who possess the same inclinations. Whatever you are interested in, you can share these items at Pinterest and pin them up. 

Certain etiquette must be observed when using Pinterest. Users have to be nice especially with their language and with what they pin. Pins should be linked back to the original source. The use of Pinterest to self-promote is not allowed. Nudity and hateful contents must not be used and must be reported. Relay constructive suggestions to the site developer.

A pin, usually an image added from the website, can be added using the ‘Pin It’ button or simply by uploading the image from your computer. Every time a pin is added, it links back to its source. However, before you can add pins, you must install the ‘Pin It’ button either through the instructions and video tutorials or through the bookmarks toolbar in Firefox. This button will let you grab an image from any website and add it to one of your pinboards. Pinterest in turn automatically grabs the source link so it can credit the original creator.

A board is a set of pins that is created to cover just any topic: food, favourite recipes, wedding themes, collage, birds, painting, an a lot more.  You may add as many pins to your board as you want; there is no limit.

Following any board means getting to see all the pins there are in it and any newly made board by the user you are following. Just click ‘follow all’, ‘follow’ or ‘unfollow’

To sign up as a user of Pinterest, you have to request an invite from the site developer or be invited by someone who is already a user. Upon receiving an invite, you can then register via Facebook Connect or simply connect through Twitter.

Once logged in, click you current username found at the top right toolbar and click ‘Edit Profile’. Through this, you can change your email address, type a new username, type a bio, change your image, add/remove Pinterest to your Facebook Timeline by clicking the ‘ON’ and ‘OFF’ slider, hide your account from search indexes, change email notification preferences, or even deactivate your Pinterest account. Remember to hit ‘Save Profile’ at the bottom of the page to effect these changes.

With regards to pinning and repining, each pin added using the site’s bookmarklet automatically links back to the site where it came from. To do this best, pin from the original source, pin from permalinks and give credit and include a thoughtful pin description.

Using the Pinterest’s bookmarklet, browse the web, when you see an image you wish to pin, click ‘Pin It’ on your browser to pull all the images. Select the image you want to pin, choose which board the image belongs on, type a description and add some tags to help users search for it. It is your option to share the pin to Facebook and/or Twitter. When done, click ‘Pin It’. 

Repinning is adding an image you found to your own board while browsing Pinterest. In effect, the user who first pinned the image will also get credit. Repinning maintains the source-link of the image no matter how many times it is repinned. 

You can repin an image in two ways: 1) If viewed as thumbnail, mouse-over the pin and click the ‘Repin’ button, or 2) If viewed in full size, click the ‘Repin’ button at the top-left corner. Next, choose a board where to add the image, edit the description of the pin and choose to share it on Facebook and/or Twitter, and click ‘Repin’. 

A pin can be edited. Of the two ways to accomplish this, the first is view one of your pins in thumbnail view, mouse-over the pin then click the ‘Edit’ button. Click ‘Save’ after making your changes. The second way is to view a pin as full size, click ‘Edit’ at the top-lest corner, make the necessary changes and click ‘Save’.

Just to give you an idea, Liking is different from repining. Liking a pin adds the image to your ‘Likes’ section and the image is not added to one of your boards. On the other hand, repinning and image allows you to categorize the image onto one of your boards. You can edit the description of a repin and the source-link of that image is saved automatically regardless of times it has been repinned.  

If you want to add a price to a pin, type the $ or £ symbol followed by the number amount in the description. When done, click ‘Pin It’.

To mention a pin to a Pinterest user, first, you need to be following at least one board belonging to him/her. Next, type the @ symbol immediately followed by his/her username. After doing this, potential matches to this username will begin to load. When you see the person you want, click the name. With regard to the user, you can mention a user in a pin description while you’re pinning or repinning and you can also mention a user in a comment.

Should you decide to create a new board, click ‘Add > Add a Board’ on the top toolbar on Pinterest. Type in a board title, choose a category and click ‘Create’ when you’re done. You can also create a new board while pinning: scroll to the bottom of your board list, enter in a new board title and click ‘Create’. It will not be a problem editing the title of a board, just go to the board, click the ‘Edit’ button, edit and click ‘Save Board Settings’.

In the event you would like to delete a board, go to that board, click the ‘Edit’ button in the top-right corner and click ‘Delete Board’. This move will delete all the pins contained in the board. 

To facilitate sharing of ideas, you can allow other people to contribute to your board. Go to that board, click ‘Edit’ button in the top-right corner and change the setting from ‘Just Me’ to ‘Me + Contributors’.

This will require you to follow at least one board belonging to a user in order to add him/her as a contributor. By typing the username into the text field, potential matches to this username will start to load. When you see the person you want, click his/her name, click ‘Add’, then click ‘Save Board Settings’.

You can also create a new board by clicking ‘Add > Add a Board’ on the toolbar on Pinterest then select the setting ‘Me + Contributors’. You may proceed to add other users. Users who you add as contributors will receive an email notification. They have the option to remove themselves at any time.

Reciprocating completes the communication process and connection among people continues. Commenting on a pin is the way to reciprocate and connect with the users. This can be done in two ways: 1) mouse-over a pin in thumbnail view and click the ‘Comment’ button. Type in your comment and click the ‘Comment’ button again, and 2) view a pin in full size, type a comment in the text box below the image. You may also type ‘@username’ (type in the username following the ‘@’ sign) to mention other users in your comment. 

If you want to mention a pin to a Pinterest user, first you need to follow at least one board belonging to him/her. Then, type ‘@’ symbol immediately followed by his/her username. Potential matches to this username will start to load; just click on the name of the person you want to mention. You can also mention a user in a pin/repin description or in a comment. A notification will be received by the user you mentioned. 

It is important to add a Pinterest follow button to your website. To do this, go to Goodies page of Pinterest. Select the style of button you want then copy the code to embed on your website.

Likewise, to add a ‘Pin It’ button to your website, go to Goodies page. Adding a ‘Pin It’ button to your product pages or blog posts will allow your customers and readers to pin your products onto Pinterest. You will need to fill up a form at Goodies page to customize your own button. You will also need to add this code to your site:

To increase social awareness, you have to place the ‘Pin It’, Facebook’s and Twitter’s buttons together. The description that is optional specifically lowers the friction for your users to pin your products. On a catalog for example, an advance code that is written next to and associated with the correct product (the one shown) can make it possible to have multiple ‘Pin It’ buttons on each page.   

Should not want images from your site to be pinned, add this code to the head of any page on your site: <meta name=”pinterest” content=”nopin”/>. A message which says, “This site doesn’t allow pinning to Pinterest. Please contact the owner with any questions. Thanks for visiting.” can be read when a user tries to pin from your site.

You have mastered your craft and are ready to go. You have even written down notes. Now, you have to figure out how publishing your information is going to actually happen.

Without any info marketing know-how, you may be preoccupied with some ideas such as 'how to create a CD' about it, or 'how to create an MP3' so viewers or listeners would acquire the ideas direct from these materials. You may even wonder if you can really sell your ideas.

Heck, I remember thinking that when I sat down at my desk to write my first information product, “How to Generate Leads Using E-Bay”! 

I didn’t know if people would really buy it.   But I decided to do it anyway.  That was 7 years ago!

So how do you possibly hand down all that knowledge to others without feeling overwhelmed?

There are simple steps to follow:

First, start out with something simple that you can develop later. This is something which you have mastered and have kept on doing over and over again.

Back to my e-book “How to Generate Leads Using E-Bay”, I discovered this method after spending countless hours and dollars (24K to be exact) trying to generate leads online.   But once I figured it out, I did it over and over again.

So it became the perfect topic to be translated into an eBook and put into a PDF format.   I would suggest also capitalizing on SmashWords.com.

Secondly, publish your first eBook, learn the process and then market it over and over again.   The key here is to build a responsive, solid list and then market your e-book to your list. 

Engaging and building a list is your #1 priority! You have probably heard me say this before in my  "5 Steps to 25 Leads Per Day" course which every person should be reading if they do not have a list of at least 2500…but it really needs to be said over and over.  A responsive list is the key NOT massive traffic.

Also, use some banner ads to advertise it; test some copy; and do some refining of the eBook when necessary. When feedback, questions and comments come in use those as the foundation of your next info publishing product. You will be surprised at those who read your first e-book crave your further ideas on the subject.

This next information marketing product could be in the form of an audio product. You can use instant Teleseminar dot com or produce a short video tutorial and upload to Vimeo.

So you see, it is not that difficult to undertake the project of creating your first info marketing product. Just don't get overwhelmed with your ideas and fail to act upon them.. Lots of ideas are of no use, if you don't put them to action. Start writing your eBook and get to work with your first information marketing product now!

Do you have your Marketing Map for the next 90 days?   You may know your goals for the next 90 days. 

But do you know how to achieve your goals?

Yesterday, Jane, my client asked me a simple but profound question “How do I achieve the goal that I have set for May 1, 2012.  My answer was simple.  Let’s put together a plan for the next 90 days.  

You see Jane is a small business owner who needs to beef up her online presence and increase her profit margin.   She has dabbled in the social media playground with a Facebook Fan Page and even heard the terms:  Twitter, Youtube, and Press Releases. 

Jane just did not know how to put it all together into a concise Marketing Plan.   She wasn’t even sure how marketing cycles and plans worked together to achieve maximum sales growth for her business.

The first thing that I explained to her was that marketing plans were similar to gardens.   Typically a gardener plants seeds and then over the next 90 days waters, fertilizes, and weeds them until they produce vegetation.

If you think about it most businesses operate like this.   They divide their business into marketing quarters, then at the end they measure and publish the results.

So what should your 90 Day Marketing Plan look like?

It is fairly simple.
