Get Out of Your Own Way

by Angela Giles, PR and Social Media Manager

Do you have fears that keep you from success?   Do you let your fears dictate your path in life?  From time to time, everyone allows their personal fears to keep them from taking the next step forward.

Case in point, today I was speaking with a middle aged woman that I will call Tina.   She is a very sweet, personable lady who is running an online business.   She was complaining to me that she did not have the money to pay for a monthly charge for a marketing program that she really needed.    Tina said “Angela I need these tools to further my business but I just don’t have the funds”.  She then proceeded to tell me about her loved ones surgery and impact it had on their family income.

I paused and thought about what my response was going to be.   You see, I could relate.   A few years ago my husband went through 2 heart surgeries and 1 back surgery in the space of 4 months.   It set us back quite a bit financially.  I remember days when I would go through all the medical bills piling in and just shake my head and break down crying.    After a few months of this, I realized that I had to do something.  No one else was going to pay my bills and put a roof over my children’s head.  It was up to me.

So I had my time to grieve and feel bad and then I had to move forward.  I had to let go of my fear.   I changed my thinking and started moving forward one day at a time.   I dived into my online business and started making money.   My husband got better and went back to work.   Things do get better.
You see I know firsthand that money does not grow on trees but it can flow to you, if you let your fears stop controlling you.  If you really want something, you will let go of your fear and take one step forward.

Not gigantic leaps….just one step forward

One step forward means this.  Set your goal then break it down into manageable pieces.   Think about it like this “Goals are like rings on the ladder that you can see yourself reaching. “   Then cover up all the rings except for the first one and concentrate on getting to that first ring on the ladder – The one achievable goal – not the elusive mountain top!

Back to my friend Tina, she really needs a small amount of money for her monthly fee.   The first step she should take is to figure out how she can come up with funds for the first month.   Not month after month.     Let me give you some ideas that may come to her when she lets go of her fear.

-    Cancel her web browsing for one month on her cell phone –(savings $30)
-    Coupon clip to save $15 to $20 on monthly grocery bill.
-    Dog sit for one month (get client by putting an ad on craigslist)
-    Have a garage sale – make $50 to $100

Now you see she has the money she needs for the marketing site.   Once she delves into the educational material and learns how to gain customers, she will no longer have fear.  Because you see she will have already started making more than enough in beauty product sales to cover her monthly membership fee.   All because she let go of her fears and bit off one piece of a goal at a time.

I hope that you can let go of your fears and let success become your best friend.   Remember that success is achieving one goal at a time.

With love,
Angela Giles

Great ideas. Sometimes we just need to think outside the box and be creative.
